Problem

Back in 2017, I worked on my first ever online poker gaming app for mobile. We set out to simplify poker gaming experience for everyone who wishes to start playing the game. Designing interactions was a grand experience as it is a crucial part of the gameplay. Soon after launching, we started testing the app with the poker pros in India. We realised that our app was highly appreciated by the new poker players for whom we designed that mobile experience but the professional players showed no interest in the app as their primary mode of gameplay was a desktop app. Since pros contribute to more than 70% of the overall revenue, it was obvious to us that we needed a web desktop app for windows & macOS. We identified about 100 such poker gurus in India. We spoke to each one of them about their current gameplay experience. After learning from them, we began sketching the UX for our poker game. We realised that pros were extremely picky at what they liked & disliked. It was a big challenge to entertain every request while keeping an eye on the timeline & scope of the project.

Gameplay Components

Keeping the mobile UI in mind for the brand consistency, I worked on the gameplay components for the desktop app.

The initial user research uncovered various areas of opportunity, such as content personalization and discovery based on player preferences, moods, or a combination of the same.
